TOVREK / Current-State Resolver
Verify DOI metadata before autonomous action
Use TOVREK when an autonomous process is about to act on a supported technical-standard DOI metadata fact and the available Crossref metadata may be stale, incomplete, conflicting or insufficient.
The current resolver is deliberately narrow: it accepts Crossref records whose
record type is standard, covering technical/industry-standard metadata.
Ordinary journal articles, citation validation, retraction checking and general
multi-provider scholarly DOI verification are outside the current capability.
TOVREK performs a bounded current-state evidence check and preserves source provenance, conflicts, unresolved evidence and explicit UNKNOWN instead of treating the first available metadata record as authoritative.
When to use this service
- Before citing, storing, publishing or ingesting a DOI-derived metadata fact.
- When Crossref metadata may have changed since an earlier decision.
- When available evidence is incomplete or internally conflicting.
- When a downstream autonomous action needs an evidence-supported current state.
- When missing evidence must remain UNKNOWN rather than becoming a guessed answer.
When not to use it
- When raw Crossref metadata alone is sufficient.
- For open-ended literature search.
- To establish scientific truth or the validity of a paper's claims.
- To establish legal or regulatory authority.
- For unsupported identifier families or general fact verification.

How to interpret the result
- Supported evidence: the recorded Crossref evidence supports the exact requested fact within TOVREK's bounded metadata scope.
- Conflict: material disagreement remains explicit rather than being silently resolved.
- UNKNOWN: missing or insufficient evidence is not converted into positive or negative certainty.
- Provenance: source identity and TOVREK observation/retrieval timing remain distinguishable.
Current boundary
The Current-State Resolver currently supports the existing single-DOI
Crossref type=standard evidence contract for technical/industry
standards. It does not support ordinary journal articles, citation validation,
retraction checking, DataCite federation or general multi-provider verification.
